I was part of the LIMS(Laboratory for Intelligent Machine Systems) Lab for two years, during which I worked mostly on perching aircraft. The aircraft was designed for it to fly like a conventional aircraft, but then to perform a very rapid entrance into a deep stall providing a quick burst of dynamic lift. Several models were built, although a perching maneuver was never successfully carried out on a physical object. The video below contains a test of the tail system for iteration of the aircraft after the one above met its demise.
